u HISTORY

Founder Freddie Cheek, M.S. Ed., CCM, CPRW, CARW, CWDP has 25+ years’ experience in job search training, career coaching, adult education, job placement, resume writing, and human resources.  She manages Cheek & Associates, LLC, a career counseling, job search training, and resume writing business.  She is also a Certified New York State English Teacher and former high school journalism and English teacher in New York and North Carolina.  Freddie provides vocational and job search services to a broad general population of diverse ability, occupational, educational, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.  Clients include executives and managers, career changers, dislocated workers, those returning to the work place, and individuals seeking career advancement.  Freddie has serviced contracts and completed assignments with the Department of Veterans Affairs, US Postal Service, Child & Family Services Employee Assistance Program, AAA of Western & Central New York, and New York State Office of Vocational & Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID).

The true measure of excellence is recognition by your peers.  Freddie was awarded 3rd Place for Best Resume Content in PRWRA’s 2002 National Resume Writing Contest and was the recipient of the 2004 CDI President's Choice Award.  She has been selected as one of five nominees in various categories of the the 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008 national TORI (Toast of the Resume Industry) Awards, earning that distinction every year that she was eligible.  She also served as judge for the competition in 2005-6.

She has developed and presented job search workshops for counselors and job seekers throughout the United States and Canada.  Freddie is the author of “Avoiding the Fuzzy-Slipper Syndrome” and her presentations have been described as helpful, informative, humorous, practical, thorough, and energizing.  Presentations include: Utah Association for Job Search Training State Conference, Canadian National Consultation on Career Development, NAJST/AJST National Conference, New York Association for Continuing/Community Education Convention, Professional Resume Writing and Research Association National Conference, and National Association of Workforce Development Professionals National Conference.  She has also hosted and presented online chats and teleclasses.

Freddie has received ongoing professional development training, including 3-4 professional conferences yearly and classes in: Tests and Measurement,  Marketing Jobs First, New York State Career Counseling Model, Job Development, Action for Personal Choice, Implementing Job Search Techniques, Improving Job Retention, Strategies for Getting and Keeping a Job, Reflective Listening, Advanced Resume Writing, Coaching for Resume Writers, and Adult Education Resource Guide and Learning Standards.
