THE SALARY QUESTION

One of the best, non-threatening and most honest approaches to the salary question:

“I really can’t just come up with a number.  I would need to know more details about the
scope, responsibilities, and etc. of the new job, how my years of experience match with
other staff members and how this job compares with similar positions.

What have you typically offered for this or similar positions?  OR  What is the salary
range for this position?”

THEN:

“I am very interested in working with you (or joining your company) and would like to
consider your best offer.”

THE CLOSE

Before you leave the interview, you must attempt to do the following:

A. State your sincere interest in this position and in the company.

B. Ask when they want to have their new hire start (and mention your availability).

C. Ask about the next step in the process.  Second interview, reference check?

D. Offer to assist with any reference checks?

E. Mention that this looks like a good fit; do they agree?  If not, why?

F. Say thank you and express your desire to hear from them, soon.
